A few days ago, in the lovely former Convento dell’Osservanza di Brisighella, the 8th edition of “Albana Dèi” officially ended. The event closed with the awarding of the homonymous prize as well as that of the “L’Indigeno del Cuore - premio Valter Dal Pane” 2020, exclusively conferred to Albana secco wines. Created and supervised by Carlo Catani and Andrea Spada and organized by Consorzio Vini di Romagna, this year’s edition ended after some delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Albana Dèi aims to enhance and promote the most characteristic vine of Romagna and spread its culture by highlighting its uniqueness through the expressive wines of Romagna producers.
Albana is one of the most representative wines of this territory, but also the first Italian white wine to obtain the Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) recognition in 1987. It is widely cultivated in the provinces of Forlì-Cesena, Ravenna and Bologna, where the hills take this grape’s spectacular golden color especially in the weeks preceding harvest. Presenting a straw yellow color that turns into gold as the wine ages, Albana is especially famous for its dolce and passito versions, but it is also an outstanding secco. In short, Albana is a wine that can bring out the uniqueness of its land and its people in just a few sips: just like what Consorzio Vini di Romagna celebrates during “Albana Dèi”.
This year’s edition has seen 7 Albana wines blindly evaluated by a technical jury made up of leading critics from the main national wine guides and professional sommeliers. This first evaluation was completed by a “public” vote from the various initiatives promoted in the squares and restaurants of Romagna throughout 2020.
The first place in the “Albana Dèi” category was won by Tre Monti “Vitalba” 2019 from Imola, followed by Merlotta “Fondatori GP” 2019, also from Imola, and “Coronilla” 2019 by Bulzaga from Faenza. For the “L’Indigeno del Cuore – premio Valter Dal Pane” category, public vote and the technical jury have unanimously awarded Tre Monti “Vitalba” and Merlotta “Fondatori GP” the first and second spots, respectively. Third place went to Giovannini “Gioja” 2019 from Imola.
We would like to thank the jury, the public, the producers and everyone who made this event possible despite the difficulties of this particular period. We will be seeing you in October for “Albana Dèi” 2021 and Master dell’Albana.
From April 14th to 17th, Consorzio Vini di Romagna will be a key player at the 56th edition of Vinitaly, Italy's most important wine fair with a broad international scope.
The Consorzio Vini di Romagna is gearing up for its first international event of 2024. From March 10th to 12th, it will be participating in ProWein in Düsseldorf alongside eight associated wineries from Romagna.
