On December 20 in Faenza, at the Sala Cento Pacifici, the traditional proclamation ceremony of the winning wines from the ninth edition of the Albana Dèi – a wine event created by Carlo Catani and Andrea Spada and organized by the Consorzio Vini di Romagna – was held. This event aims to enhance and promote the most identifying vine of Romagna, as well as spread its culture by revealing its distinctive character through the numerous interpretations made by local winemakers.

The 7 Albana wine finalists underwent a blind evaluation by a technical jury consisting of critics from important wine guides and sommeliers. The general public was also given a chance to share its voice during a tour in October that has visited some of the most splendid towns and the most representative locations in Romagna: Bertinoro, Castrocaro Terme, Mercato Saraceno, Brisighella, Oriolo dei Fichi, Dozza.

As per tradition, two awards, highly sought by Romagna winemakers who produce their Albana wines with commitment and passion, have been given: “Albana Dèi” awarded to the best Romagna Albana DOCG Secco and L’Indigeno del Cuore premio Valter Dal Pane”, which goes to the best Secco wines exclusively made with Albana grapes.

Tre Monti di Imola placed first in both categories: “Vigna Rocca” 2020 was given the “Albana Dèi” while “Vitalba” 2020 was awarded with “L’Indigeno del Cuore”. Both wines were made through organic production. “Vitalba” also placed second for “Albana Dèi”, while “Codronchio” 2019 by Fattoria Monticino Rosso, also from Imola, won third place.

As for “L’Indigeno del Cuore – premio Valter Dal Pane”, “Codronchio” 2019 and “Vigna Rocca” 2020 placed second and third respectively.

The other Romagna Albana DOCG Secco finalists were: Coronilla 2020 by Bulzaga in Brisighella, Madonna dei Fiori 2020 by Marta Valpiani from Castrocaro Terme, Tantalilli 2019 by Cantina Tozzi in Casola Valsenio and Valleripa 2020 by Tenuta Casali from Mercato Saraceno. All of the wines garnered high praise from both the technical and the popular jury, proving the outstanding level achieved by Romagna winemakers, one that they have constantly proven through the years. This also shows that Albana has definitely won the hearts of a larger number of people.

See you at the most enchanting squares of Romagna for the next edition of Albana Déi. Don’t miss it!
