Rocche Malatestiane

Since 1959, the Le Rocche Malatestiane Winery has represented the wine-growing roots of the Rimini area. The Rimini based company and its wines bear the name of the Malatesta family, great leaders and patrons of Rimini from the 13th to the 15th century. It is thanks to them that the fortresses were built on the same hills where the vineyards are now cultivated. The wines have a cooperative matrix and are produced in the Coriano wine cellar from the grapes of 500 winemakers who directly cultivate 800 hectares of vineyards that lie on the hills between Rimini and Cattolica. The land is like a mosaic of terroirs, different in altitude, type of soil and positioning with respect to the sea. In 2011, the winery began to renovate its identity through the "Terre Rimini del Sangiovese" project which highlighted the Sangiovese grape variety that most distinguished it because it represents over 70% of production. Thus, investments were made in soil analysis with a zoning that outlined 3 great terroirs - Coriano, San Clemente and Verucchio. The production of Sangiovese is complimented by productions from native vines such as Rebola and Pagadebit, and from international vines such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay which have found their place in the Rimini area. The winery's cultural roots and devotion to its land led it to the restoration of a magnificent underground cave a few kilometers away in the belly of Monte Giove, located under the hill on which Santarcangelo di Romagna stands. Here, Sangiovese Mons Jovis is refined with a stable temperature and a balance of all the factors that make the wine an extraordinary Sangiovese, stylistically Rimini.
